It’s quite normal for people in a relationship to become more alert when they start suspecting any infidelity in the relationship. With the prevalence of communication technologies such as emails and text messages, a lot of these people also become tempted to dig up evidence of cheating. However, a recent study has found that women are more prone to snooping on their partners—at least, when it comes to mobile phones.
A recent study was held where more than 900 middle-aged couples were asked to participate. The experiment aimed to study the behavior of each partner when it comes to snooping activities with the goal of uncovering infidelity. The results? About 14% of women confessed that they checked their partner’s emails, 13% admitted that they read their partner’s text messages and 10% checked their spouses’ browser histories. These numbers are noticeably lower than the percentages of men who admitted to doing the same activities. For instance, only a mere 6% said that they look through their wife’s or girlfriend’s text messages.
According to Ellen Helsper who is one of the authors of the study, the results are extremely interesting especially since women are generally less proficient at technology than men. Helsper says that it’s possible that women overcome this obstacle when they feel that their relationships are being threatened.
Sir Phillip Green is one of the wealthiest men in United Kingdom. His wealth totals to about $6 Billion USD. Needless to say, Sir Green is also living the life of a king. He owns a 200-foot yacht, a private jet and a Mercedes S500. He also takes board games to a whole new level with a monopoly set that’s entirely made in gold.
With such wealth under his belt, you would think that a man like Phillip Green would compliment his lifestyle with the latest and most expensive smart phone in the market. So what does Sir Green use to stay connected? Is it the trendy iPhone 3GS? Perhaps it’s something even more advanced like a mobile phone that runs on Android and has HD video capabilities.
The answer might come as a surprise to most people. The owner of Topshop’s British stores actually uses a plain old Nokia 6130, aged 9 years old. The handset model has stopped production years ago and lacks even the basic features that all modern handsets today feature, such as a camera and a multi-colored screen.
However, Green’s astounding wealth is still evident. He already bought the phone model’s remaining inventory so he can replace his phone any time he wants for the rest of his life.
Cell phone smuggling is a common problem in many prisons but recently, it seems that the problem has grown to epidemic proportions, forcing law enforcers to double their efforts in trying to stop this illegal activity. Most criminals are using their smuggled cell phones to connect to the outside world and continue their criminal activities. These inmates hold meetings that are gang-related, administer drug trafficking and even make malicious calls to extort victims.
Getting these mobile phones inside a prison is one thing and concealing them from the guards is another. Law enforcers stated how they have seen a variety of ingenious methods which the inmates use in order to keep their cell phones from detection. Some would hide the handsets in their mattresses of their beds, some would place them in the soles of their shoes while others would even make secret compartments in their brushes and other personal belongings. Still, others would even hide it inside their bodies.
This makes standard body searches insufficient for detecting cell phones among inmates. So prisons are now using canine that are trained to detect the scent of cell phones. Some prisons now also have body-scanning chairs to detect if an inmate has hidden his phone within one of the cavities in his body.
Another obstacle to solving this problem is the fact that some guards are involved in smuggling cell phones to these criminals.
In today’s modern world where most of us are dependent on technology for our everyday lives, it’s no surprise that technology can also change the way we live. Most professionals today depend on their smart phones to stay in touch with their colleagues and clients, keep their appointments schedules and get access to their documents. With the way so many professionals depend on their phones, is it true that these phones could actually be affecting relationships?
According to a survey that was conducted by Bayer, a giant pharmaceutical company, 28% of women claim that they blame smart phones for their relationship trouble. These women claimed that their partners are so wrapped up over their high-tech phones that they barely notice anything else around them.
So if you found yourself receiving less attention from your significant other because of his mobile phone, you can now relax: you are not crazy. Today’s mobiles phones sport a whole plethora of features—Wi-Fi, GPS, Google maps, a variety of apps and more. Since men are all boys at heart who are looking for the next cool gadget, it’s no wonder why your man would rather play the latest app on iPhone than go see a movie with you. So unless you want his mistress mobile phone to win, be sure to open lines of communication between the two of you—without the cell phone.
“No good deed goes unpunished” seems to be the motto of the day for two Sprint employees at the Cherry Creek shopping center. Mike McGee and Paul Shoemaker were just minding their own business when a customer ran past them, chased by a security guard from the Apple store. Quickly realizing that the running customer was a shoplifter, the two employees quickly engaged in a chase until they stopped the shoplifter at the parking mall garage. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the shoplifter was concealing software that was worth a total of about $500.
Unsurprisingly, the two employees were praised by their co-employees for their heroic deed. Sprint also required them to explain the incident—a request that was followed by a reminder that it’s in the store policy that employees should not confront thieves or shoplifters on their own. It wasn’t long before the two heroes were told that they were being let go by their long-time employer because of misconduct.
As incredible as this story may sound, the two former Sprint employees decided not to pursue the incident further. Even though they entertained the idea of passing a lawsuit against Sprint, lawyer fees and the long process of the judicial court will only make things worse than they are.
Those of you who have been wondering about the future of once-major smartphone company Palm can now know what fate holds for this company. During the last several months, numerous companies have joined the list of businesses looking into buying Palm. Recently, it was announced that Palm’s long-time rival, HP, has won the auction.
Despite CEO Jon Rubenstein’s claims that Palm still had a chance of surviving on its own, there was no denying that the place of the company was getting critical. It was no wonder that companies such as LTC and Lenovo have been making offers to buy out the company. Sources are saying that HP paid a mere $1.2 billion for Palm, which is considered by many to be a small figure for a company that was once as successful as Palm. The deal is expected to become finalized in July. Until then, Rubenstein would be staying on to supervise arrangements.
The future certainly holds big things for HP now that they have acquired the major smartphone company. Palm’s assets include their platforms, client portfolio, hardware device and other technology. All these will allow HP to produce a great number of new products that range from smartphones and possibly to tablets that will compete with the iPad.
If you keep up with your Apple news then you are probably aware that x-rated content has been recently banned from the App Store. Well, it seems that x-rated material was only the first among the list of apps to be banned. It was also recently announced that apps with an Apple-trademarked title will also be scratched out, and that includes the word “pad” according to Steve Jobs.
Another interesting event that took place in the App Store was the banning of the NewsToons App of Mike Fiore, a popular editorial cartoonist. As editorials cartoonists are wont to do, Fiore took a shot at public figure such as politicians. However, with the recent Pulitzer Price win of Mr. Fiore, Apple reconsidered its decision. This timely change of mind on Apple’s part did not escape controversy. It seems that the giant company was employing double standards when it comes to banning certain apps. Does this mean that you can have an app that defames public figures as long as you have prestigious titles under your belt?
This issue has been raising eyebrows especially since an Apple app called BobbleRep was also banned but has not been restored. This app was almost similar in content to NewsToons.
Voice command is an important technology that promises to change the way we do most of our communication methods. The latest communication aspect to be changed is how we send email messages through mobile phones. Last December, this hands-free method of writing emails was introduced to iPhone users. Recently, the technology was also made available for Blackberry owners.
The program is called Dragon Dictation by Nuance and it takes the act of making emails to a whole new different level. All you have to do is dictate your email message to your phone and then check it to see if your message has been transcribed accurately. It takes about 5 seconds for each spoken word to be transcribed to text.
Nuance is known for being an innovator behind most hands-free applications that are being used in modern mobile phones today. In the iPhone, the Dragon Dictation program also comes with an option that lets you enter a query in a search engine through mere speech. You can also dictate a memo using your iPhone. The app is more limited in the Blackberry phone however and only features hands-free email. For now, the application is free at the Blackberry App World so grab your free app now.
Motorola has always been known for its edgy and out-of-of-the-box ideas, especially when it comes to designing unique-looking mobile phones that turn heads. Well, it seems that the company will be doing it again as photos of a reported prototype hit the Internet. The new Motorola mobile phone is being dubbed as an Android phone “with a twist”.
The design pretty much resembles that of the Krave ZN4 that Motorola designed for Verizon. The phone comes with a protective transparent cover that allows users to operate the handset like a flip phone. The new phone will also reportedly have dual-band and 3G features. Its other multimedia features will also be seeing some improvements. For instance, the handset will boast a camera with 5 megapixels. The cell phone will also be able to capture HD videos of 720p. Even though the new phone does resemble the Krave ZN4 that was launched about two years ago, the new design remains to be an interesting choice for an Android phone.
Those who want to check out the latest phone can search the photos online. Despite its unique and edgy design, many consumers are hoping that the phone can offer high-quality features instead of just a head-turning look.
As you probably know, an odd-looking iPhone was recently found on the floor of a San Jose bar. Although it may look like your standard iPhone 3G at first, a closer inspection showed that it was a different model altogether—one that no one (outside Apple that is) has seen before.
The lucky dudes who found the handset put it up for auction and it seems that Gizmodo has paid the biggest bucks since they recently confirmed that the “discovered” unit was indeed an iPhone. Gizmodo came upon their conclusion after subjecting the unit to a series of tests and software programs that confirmed the handset to be a genuine iPhone. Gizmodo also checked its internal parts.
The new iPhone, rumored to see its release this coming summer, features a boxier design and a screen with a higher resolution. It also has an improved front-facing camera, a slot for micro-SIM and a bigger battery.
It has also been reported that Apple sent a letter to Gizmodo asking for the return of the new iPhone model, further fueling speculations that the phone may be a prototype of a future iPhone model. With this teaser, fans surely won’t be able to wait until the new model is released.
